For a long time, it was believed that it also hid the doorway to the gods because above it a shimmering curtain of lights danced. Even if Neosians now knew these lights were merely the result of disturbances in the magnetosphere caused by solar wind, Nemma, still held on to the old beliefs. She could not do otherwise, being a High Priestess. So, as she had done countless times before, she had come under the auroras to meditate and offer her prayers to the old gods. She knew that her people had offended them, though how, she wasn't sure. But to show their displeasure, the gods had sent the BahNu as punishment. Neosa had suffered under their rule, and Nemma could see the world dying around her. Why would the gods permit all of this, she had often wondered? But questioning the gods was not something one did. All you could do was accept their punishment and beg for forgiveness. When the Guardian had appeared above the curtain of lights, Nemma could not believe her eyes. One of the gods had finally come. She prostrated herself to display as much humility as she could and begged him to forgive her people. But for what seemed like forever, the Guardian stood silent, his gaze on her. When his voice resounded, she felt her whole being vibrating, as if every molecule in her body resonated to his words. "Your people are not responsible for what has befallen your world," the Guardian said. "Your gods, whomever they may be, have not punished you nor does your world blame you for its pain. Let me show you." Nemma felt herself drawn inside the Guardian and as she floated above her world, she could see and feel what her world was feeling. Nemma cried as she witnessed firsthand the devastation the BahNu had caused. Lands once fertile and rich scorched for miles on end. Forests once rich with life, now nothing more than dried up kindle. Rivers turned dark and lifeless. And millions of Neosians in chains, forced to drain more of the world's life force. Nemma cried out in pain. "What have we done? We let the BahNu do all of this, thinking our gods demanded it. How misguided we were all. Please, Guardian, help us put an end to all this." "I will heal your world, for that is my mission, but if you wish to live in harmony with it, you must fight for that survival." Nemma picked up the staff that she had dropped on the ground. Each end was bladed. She brandished it towards the Guardian. "I may be alone, but I will use my 'khon' to free my people. Soon, it will taste the blood of our oppressors and not until its blades turn ruby red, will I stop." "If that is your wish, then so it will be. Go forth, Rubikhon. Save your people and protect your world." She then found herself sent to the other side of the world. The Guardian was with her. She watched as he sent out waves of destructive energy and took down the BahNu's machines of destruction. She saw the BahNu send out its fleet against the Guardian, but he took no notice. Instead, he sent her out to free her world. Rubikhon fought like a fury. And as she had sworn, her blades drank the blood of her enemies. The BahNu kept coming and Rubikhon kept on fighting. As a second wave of ship rushed to the assistance of their troops, the Guardian said, "The task to free your world will not need to be done by you alone, Rubikhon. How many allies will you need with you." "A handful of the bravest will do, Guardian." "Then a handful you shall have." And so was created the Children of the Guardian. Rubikhon has led her team for the last 600 years protecting her world, Neosa, from various threats but primarily from the BahNu. When Silverlance arrived in her system some 350 years ago, it was she who immediately realized he was also a child of the Guardian. He had been lost, but he was welcomed to Neosa. With the help of Farut, Silverlance eventually returned home, but his love for the Neosian people made him return for visits many times and over the years, Rubikhon developed strong feelings for him. When Gaia Force disbanded, Silverlance decided to settle on Neosa and joined Rubikhon's group. The two eventually got married. Rubikhon is a very private woman, and very few have seen her laugh. She takes her role as leader very seriously, and the protection of her people is paramount for her. She knows her people look to her for reassurance during dark times, and she does so by keeping the most serious of façade. Rubikhon always seems to be on the look-out for danger, and her people feel safe because of it.
